Dinner in Iraq

I have not posted for some time, and I apologize profusely for the lapse; however, I am no longer in Iraq. I am sure that I will return soon. I may also be heading to other locales. Who knows you may see a dinner in Afghanistan or even better Dinner in the Philippines. For now, though, we will have to settle on Dinner in Hawaii, because I am moving there next week. Aloha everyone.

I am back! It has been a while since I was last able to upload a picture. without further ado, here is the menu choice for this evening. The lovely brown slop is a Salisbury steak with gravy. Really, it is a hamburger patty with salty brown gravy. You will notice the corn, and of course, instant mashed potatoes. Tonight the mashed potatoes have a very distinct flavor, if bland can be considered a flavor. It was like I was eating mushy white cardboard. Thankfully, you cannot go wrong with canned corn.

So, tonight we had prime rib, mashed potatoes made from real potatoes, and asparagus wrapped in filo dough. Wait a minute, that was my imagination. Why my imagination tonight, Oh yeah, because we didn't get dinner tonight. WTF? One last note for this evening. I want to wish a very happy birthday to my 10 year old daughter Autumn!

We had rice. Yes, that is rice under neath that slop. Rice and Slop. Slop and rice. Yummy!! Ok, maybe not. the water chestnuts were not half bad. If you look closely you might even see a miniature corn cob. Industrial size La Choy. I guess dessert was a fluke. Oh well, what is one to do?

You really can't screw up reheated chicken breast, unless of coarse you add bland stuffing that tastes like wet bread. Oh look, bland stuffing that tastes like wet bread. You will notice Dessert! It was like party here. Of course the dessert scared me. It was in a vacuumed sealed tray with about 20 other cakes just like it. I believe it has a shelf life similar to a twinky. Who am I to complain, though? Oh yeah, sorry for being late in the post. We are in a war zone after all.

Tonights dinner is Salisbury Steak. Once again we have mashed potatoes. I can honestly say I will not eat instant mashed potatoes when I get home. Other than the gravy being a bit on the salty side, it wasn't too bad. I could really use a salad.

This meal can be considered standard fare. You will notice one meat, one starch, and one vegetable. Mashed Potatoes again. That makes three out of the last five nights. I wonder if they have ever heard of rice. Well, I have to give credit where credit it due. While the carrots were canned, and the potatoes were fake, the chicken was absolutely wonderful. Congratulations, cookie, you didn't screw it up.

This is what you call a choice. It is a novel concept here, but there you have it. You will notice not one, but two main dish items. In the bottom right there is chicken (I think) pasta in a reasonable facsimile of Alfredo sauce. In the Top Left is a shrimp and pasta dish. You will notice that we have vegetables again. Green beans. One more night with vegetables, and you can call it a trend. There was even broccoli the chicken pasta dish. It was white, but it was broccoli. Of course since dinner was edible this evening, they gave us moldy rolls to remind us where we are. Note how I filled up all but one of my partitions on the tray tonight. I felt like I was at Olive Garden. Ok, maybe not.

Let me start with the good news. We actually got a vegetable tonight. Unfortunately, the vegetable was the only item for dinner that I could Identify. Let me help you. That isn't vomit on the left, that is bread stuffing. The other stuff, some kind of chiken dish. I think it is chow mein. Mmmmm..stuffing and chow mein. It seemed logical at the time.

This is supposed to be meatloaf. The sauce is the same as yesterday. I wonder what kind of "meat" is in the loaf. Note the mashed potatoes two nights in a row.
